Let’s use the power of ClassiPress Membership packs

Tested on WordPress 4.2  &  ClassiPress Version: 3.4.1

While working in the AppThemes forums i visit websites from our ClassiPress customers nearly every day – especially when they are facing problems getting some settings sorted. While doing that, i’ve recognized that only a few people have membership packs activated and working in a profitable way. In this tutorial i’d like to show you a sample of how you can use the power of ClassiPress Membership Packs and make some nice extra money.

Here we go:

A very standard ClassiPress setting is something like this:

  • Post an Ad for $5.00 and have it listed for 30 days.

That’s it? No, Some people also offer:

  • Show your ad as “featured ad” and get it up in our featured slider for additional $5.00 per ad

That’s it? Yes, unfortunately that’s it…!

Setting ClassiPress the above way might be good for a well known site were people from everywhere come daily to post ads. But if you are new in the market and like to attract some people, you’ll need to make some nice offers to your visitors. For example like this:

  • Post an Ad for FREE and have it listed for 5 days.
  • Post an Ad for $5.00 and have it listed for 30 days.
  • Post an Ad for $7.50 and have it listed for 60 days.
  • Show your ad as “featured ad” and get it up in our featured slider for additional $5.00 per ad
  • Get a membership package for $25.00 (3 month duration) and enjoy a 50% discount on all ad prices! You can post as many ads as you like!
  • Get a membership package for $50.00 (6 month duration) and enjoy a 75% discount on all ad prices! You can post as many ads as you like!
  •  Get a membership package for $100.00 (12 month duration) and enjoy a 90% discount on all ad prices! You can post as many ads as you like!

Doesn’t that sound more attractive? I think it does, so let’s take that sample and create it:

Step 1

Set the normal “prices per ad” in your ad package. To do so, go to ClassiPress => Packages and see that one of the Ad pack that we want ($5.00 for 30 days)  is already there. It’s created by ClassiPress as default and we can use that one for our sample as it is.  So click on the “Add New” button and fill out the second ad pack. Set the Name, description, price and duration like we said above ($7.50 per 60 days). Make sure that the status is set to “Active” and save your settings.

Now create the 3rd ad pack (“Add New” button), set the price to $0.00 and have it listed for 5 days. Make sure that the status is set to “Active” and save your settings.

Step 2

Under the Ad Packs you see the Membership Packs. Let’s take the default one created by ClassiPress and click ‘edit’. Change the name to something like “90 days Membership including 50% discount on all ad prices for only $25″. Now write some nice description in the description field. Fill out the next steps like shown on the screenshot:

Now create (click on the ‘Add New’ button)  another 2 membership packs and do the settings as described above.  To get a 75% discount, write 25 in the “Price Modifier (How a membership affects the price of an ad)”. You are wondering why 25? Speaking this out will be something like “You need to pay only 25% of the normal price”.  Because if you set 75 it would be like saying “You need to pay 75% of the normal price”.  Here some samples:

Assuming that the normal price is $10

  •  Write 50 into “Price Modifier” and the total price will be $5.00
  •  Write 10 into “Price Modifier” and the total price will be $1.00
  •  Write 90 into “Price Modifier” and the total price will be $9.00
  •  Write 100 into “Price Modifier” and the total price will be $10.00
  •  Write 1 into “Price Modifier” and the total price will be $0.10
  •  Write 0 into “Price Modifier” and the total price will be $0.00

Got the idea? Ok, let’s continue.

Step 3

Go to ClassiPress => Settings => Pricing => General (tab) and set “Charge for Listing Ads” to ‘YES’ and “Price Model” to ‘Fixed Price per Ad’ and save your settings.  Now click on the Membership tab and set “Enable Membership Packs” to ‘YES’. And finally set “Are Membership Packs Required to Purchase Ads?” to ‘NOT REQUIRED’ and save your settings.

Step 4

We are almost done. If a visitor starts to post an ad he will fill out the form, upload some images and get asked which price package he likes to take.  It will show him the additional “featured” price as well as a selection of the normal price packs. But what about the membership packs?  That’s why we have this “Step 4” because we need to give your customers the possibility to purchase a membership pack and grab the amazing discount for the ads. Otherwise he will for sure select the “Post an Ad for FREE” option.

So we go to WordPress => Appearance => Menus and place the Membership page into the main menu. See screenshot:

setting-mp02

You are done!  Your customers will see the ‘Membership’ in your menu and get this page when they click on it:

setting-mp03

Your customers are now ready to purchase a membership pack  and save some good money. For sure they will post many ads during that membership duration as they enjoy great discounts. That’s why we call it: Let’s use the power of ClassiPress Membership packs

“Normal” customers don’t need to buy a membership pack. They can still take a single ad pack and post it as standard. You see? Everyone will like it! Get more informations about Membership packs here.

I wish you good luck  with your project and lots of sales! :)

    As always samcy great tuts.

Question is there anyway to use the Ad Packs and Membership at the same time, say depending on which the customer chooses

I would like to know though since we can now see the membership package option in a tab for customers to choose from. There are both member ship and Ad Packs now active as choices. How can I get the Ad pack choices to show in a tab like Membership does??

This will only confuse some customer to see a membership pack option and Ad pack option and not sure how to choose for those not familiar with site

      Thanks

Did you read the tut? Step 1 describes the ad packs and step 2 the membership packs. That means, Yes, in this sample both gets used for the setup.

    Cheers

Hi … is there a way we can restrict the number of ads per membership pack. Like Gold membership $100 for 20 ads, Silver Membership $60 for 10 ads

I would like to know this too. So many people at AppThemes where Classipress is from are ALL wanting to be able to create ad packs or memberships that offer different tiers. Eg:

Pack 1. £10 per month. 20 free listings with 20 free featured tokens
Pack 2. £20 per month. 50 free listings with 50 free featured tokens
Pack 3. £50 per month. Unlimited free listings with unlimited free featured tokens etc etc

It’s such an important hurdle that has yet to be crossed. If you managed to add this to this plugin, I would happily pay for it :)
